There’s nothing nicer than renovating your house. Whether it’s a short DIY job or a longer, professional process the satisfaction you get at the end of a freshen up is second to none. To make sure you can truly enjoy your spruced-up living space, it’s important to do a thorough clean-up of the space once all of the work is done. This needs to be more than your usual spring clean considering the large amount of dust and other particles that are likely to have gotten into all those nooks and crannies during the renovation.
Start by making a list of everything you need to do. Research tasks you’re not sure about such as getting rid of paint smell

– make sure to open all the windows for a proper blow-through and avoid children or pets spending extended amounts of time in any rooms with nasty fumes. Once you’ve made a list of everything that needs to be cleaned, be sure to protect any furniture with dust covers and assemble all the tools and equipment you’ll need, then get to work. Here’s our guide to the key areas:

1. Walls and door frames

If walls and door frames have been newly painted simply wipe over with a soft cloth to remove any particles and ensure a neat finish. If untouched be sure to clean all over to rid the room of flecks of dust or paint from the renovation. Use a long-handled broom with a clean cloth over the spokes to reach high areas and far away corners.

2. Lighting fixtures

We often forget about cleaning the lights, but these can take a real hit during any renovation project with dust, chips and particles settling in fixtures. Make sure lights are off then take each one down and clean thoroughly with warm water before replacing. If you have a fan, clean each blade individually being sure to remove any tough marks or stains.

3. Floorboards and carpets

Hopefully your floor will have been covered during your renovation, but debris can often make its way under even the most securely fitted covers. If you have carpets, vacuum at least twice. When it comes to floorboards, vacuum once then go over with a damp mop. They will look as good as new!

Those are the three key areas when it comes to cleaning up after a home redecoration project. Although a post-renovation clean-up can take a bit of time and effort it’ll be worth it to help you enjoy your new interior. And if you don’t feel like cleaning all the nooks and crannies, you can also consider hiring a professional cleaner and just relax in your lovely, sparkling new home!
